GOING TO BEIJING!!
Checking my flight
I went to Beijing, China, on Friday 13th, 2010 by Japan Airline. It's two days before starting STeLA Leadership Forum 2010. I think it's my first time traveling alone in the country that I can't speak their language.
Shirotan with Tokyo Tower at Narita Airport
Meal on JAL
I took
Airport Express (北京机场轨道交通线) from the airport to Dongzhimen Station (东直门) and changed to Subway Line 2 to Jiangguomen Station (建国门).

After that, I asked the way from the policeman to go to the hotel I booked.
Along the way to hotel
BEJING INTERNATIONAL HOTEL
It's Beijing International Hotel (北京国际饭店). Everything there is quite nice..I feel the room is too big to stay alone.
DONGDAN
After putting my luggage, I walked to The Mall, near Dongdan Station to find something to eat as my dinner.
Because I saw the Certificate that Sergeant Chicken Rice if TimeOut Hong Kong's one of the 50 dishes you must eat in 2008, so I tried it. In my opinion, the difference between Thai Chicken Rice and Singaporean Hainan Chicken Rice maybe the various sauces they use.
Then, again, after seeing the ads said that THE BEST Curry Puff in Singapore, so I also tried a Tip Top Curry Puff's chicken curry puff.

TIAN AN MEN SQUARE
Next, I bought McFloat from McDonald's and walked to Tian An Men Square (天安门广场) waiting to see the soldiers moving the flag down in the evening.

WANG FU JING SHOPPING STREET
I continued walking to Wang Fu Jing Street (王府井), one of the most famous shopping street in Beijing. It seems like there's exhibition for sale or something. I just walked around the street.. visited Shanghai Expo Shop, book store, and some interesting shops. Then, I went back to take a rest at hotel.
CCTV TOWER
I took Subway Line 1 from Dongdan Station (东单) to Gongzhufen (公主坟) because I wanna see the CCTV Tower, the tallest structure in Beijing (405 m).
QUAN JU DE - PEKING DUCK
After that I took subway back to Wang Fu Jing Station and walk around to find the famous Peking Duck restaurant. It's Quan Ju De Roast Duck Restaurant (全聚德), Wang Fu Jing branch. I ordered 1 Peking Duck, 1 set of Pancake, 2 set of sources, and Jasmin Tea. The cook brought the duck to cut near my table. Before start eating, the staff gave me the Duck Certificate. My duck ID is 1558901. And as I expected, I cannot finish one whole duck alone, so I asked them to pack it for me to take back. I came back to hotel to keep the duck.

BEIJING ZOO

I took subway to Zoological Garden Station (动物园). In fact, I didn't go to the zoo, but I went to the shopping mall near the zoo according to Muay and Sung suggested. They sell the local Chinese brand clothes with cheap price, but need to bargain.
XIDAN
After that, I came back to hotel again to keep my stuffs, and went to Xidan Station (西单). Xidan is a commercial area like Siam Square in Thailand or Shibuya in Japan. I walked around to see the Chinese Brand shops.
And I selected to have dinner at Sizzler (时时乐). I ordered Chicken set with 39 RMB but after including the coke, it's around 50 RMB. I'm glad that there's Tom Yum soup in Salad corner there. The service and standard is quite similar to Sizzler in Thailand.
I decided to take a bus back to hotel to see the night view of the street according to Tang Tang, my lab mate, suggestion. Thanks to Tang Tang.

OLYMPIC SPORTS CENTER
Morning view from my room
It's the day I had to check out hotel and move to Peking University. After checking out, I took subway to Line 8's Olympic Sports Centre (奥体中心体育场). It was used to host the Beijing Olympic 2008 and Paralympics. The Beijing National Stadium (国家体育场) or Bird's nest (鸟巢) is very beautiful architecture. Moreover, the Beijing National Aquatics Center (北京国家游泳中心) or Water Cube also looks very cool with the cuboid shape.

Thanks to the Chinese guy who described me in English during waiting in the queue. After that, I went to Police Office to ask the way to Zhengda International Center to check in. I stayed at Shaoyuan Building No.5, in the same room with Nobutada Yokouchi from the University of Tokyo and Jonah Chen from Peking University. Shaoyuan Guest House is Peking University's complex of several buildings. Then, I walked out of the gate with Japanese and French friends to look around outside the university.
